August Newsletter

With summer well under way, I am very excited about the activities that we will be doing in August.  The kiddies will spend part of their day outside enjoying the sun. Other activities for toddlers and two-fours are listed below.

Toddler’s Activities

This month’s theme is basic shapes, such as circles, squares, triangles, etc. We are also going to continue doing letter sounds, our sounds for this month is “c”, and learning the formation of c and number 1.

Two – Four’s Activities

Language Rhymes

The kiddies will learn to play with a new set of ‘Rhymes Puzzle Cards’. They will be given a set of cards with each card having a word and corresponding picture. I will first demonstrate how to play the game by matching cards together that rhyme and then have the children repeat what I said and did. After I reviewed all the cards with them, cards will be mixed up and let each child try to assemble the cards together that rhyme. To help challenge the kids, I would ask them follow-up questions like “What sounds do ‘gate’ and ‘skate’ both end with?” and “What two words both end in ‘ed’?”

Language Cards (go-together)

We will use another set of cards and play another matching style game. The goal is to match two cards that are related in some way like ‘jar’ and ‘cookies’ (e.g., cookies go inside a jar) or ‘flashlight’ and ‘batteries’ (e.g., batteries go inside a flashlight). I will first demonstrate some possible matching cards and have each child repeat the association. Afterwards, I scramble the cards and have the kiddies determine which of the cards match. Later in the month, we will build on these skills to play a matching game. All the cards will be placed face down and on a given turn, a player can flip over any two cards as they try to find a matching ‘go-together’ pair. If the two cards match, the player describes how they go together, keeps the pair and takes another turn. If the two cards do not match, we turn them over in place and the next player takes his/her turn. Other activities will include:

  • Practice formation of upper case and lower case letter a to z
  • Learning to write the 7 days of the week (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday)
  • We will learn the spellings of basic colors Red, Blue, Green, Yellow

Math

Children work on their numbers. Almost every one recognizes the numbers up to 20. Teen ten boards help them to read and write higher numbers preparing them to fill up the hundred board.

Writing numbers from 1 to 30

Writing numbers in words from 1 to 5

Science

Our Science exciting experiments will help them to make first scientific discoveries.

  • Investigate light and reflection
  • Create amazing mixtures
  • Experiment with water
